In my culture when you’re a young girl you get invited into these spaces to listen, learn and be nurtured. My bloodline is matriarchal and I have always been influenced by the powerful women in my life. Because of them, I know that power comes in many forms. There is power in anger, but also in gentleness. There is power in patience and grace, and there is power in resilience and ferocity.

These women who’ve come before me have inspired me to stay strong in the face of adversity. They have taught me to stay staunch in my values and be proud of who I am as a strong blak woman.
