The Shore

A story of my mother and aunties watching over us as we played on the shore and in the shallows. 

“When I was little my mum and Aunties would sit by the shore watching us kids play, while they yarned about women’s business and sipped on their cuppas.

I titled this piece ‘The Shore’ because I have fond memories of playing in the sand with my siblings while the sun beat down on our skin. I remember looking over at my mum and aunties and saw them watching us and telling off one of us because we wandered too far into the water (crocs were an issue) but we thought we were big, brave and defiant.”
