This is a painting of Country. I used to ride the quad from my auntie’s house all through the bushes, right down to the beach where I would sit for hours and watch the waves ebb and flow. The sea breeze was so delicious against my sticky skin. It was coming into wet season so the air was always heavy; full of the promise of rain and thunderstorms and the odd cyclone. I remember feeling so at peace there. The palm trees swayed in the breeze, I had the taste of salt and coconut on my lips. It was paradise. It was home and it was my haven away from the world, a place where I could heal my spirit and connect back to my country and my being.
